Story - Rondo/Chronicles Richter

Okay, got a good deal done on the story. IF I can't have Annette show up, I've got a backup plan in mind, so please tell me if it's impossible on the whole thing, or even just parts.

Also, I'll do editing and stuff later, I need to know if the story's alright the way it is before I go forward, though.

First some small corrections, Aeon is a "guardian of time", he says that in judgement. Some sentences start with a "!", that's not something done in english as punctuation are mostly at the end of a sentence ("..." being the sole exception I believe, as it can be used at the beginning of a dialogue).

Some sentences have words in all caps, for me that's an unnecessary emphasis.

Now for the story, a part of Dario's dialogue doesn't make sense, Richter says that Soma saved Dario's life, there's no way he could know that since he doesn't know Soma, and Dario didn't imply that, also seems a bit odd for Richter to automaticaly assume Dario is from the future.

Aeon says at the beginning that Trevor and Grant fought Uber Dracula, I think Trevor actualy fought him alone, correct if I'm wrong, but I think Uber Dracula stopped making prisoners after Alucard died on this timeline, so Grant would naturaly be dead before Trevor arrived.

Richter seems a bit too witty here, but then again, I don't really know if he was like that in RoB (Didn't seem like it though, but I could be wrong).

Also it looks weird for Uber Dracula to want to capture Anette, why would he want that?

And, don't forget to include Astarte on the dialogues, she is on a story tier after all.

For Soma, I was going by what Dario had said about him. (Basically "He took my powers by destroying my demon!" "So then he saved your life by removing something that could have very well killed you, and you want to REVENGE for this? You are a fool.")

That's-- a good point on both Grant and Annette. Annette was a remnant of my original plan back when I had originally dibsed this thing AGES ago (back in the forum's first incarnation). Well, I DID say i had a backup plan which lacked Annette. Though I do imagine Succubus impersonating her would stay because that's kinda' Succubus's schtick, you know, impersonating female loved ones.

As for Richter's personality? That's a hard one. It's so inconsistent between all the games. I was going for a slightly genre-savvy thing for Richter, and I may have made him a bit TOO snarky. I'll fix that when I get the time.  Though to be fair, at least it's easier than Simon who all we have is Judgment, which pretty much canonized 2/3 of his personality from Captain N (arrogant ass).

As for Aeon in Judgment, yeah, sorry, I had forgotten. In my defense, I hadn't played it in a while (I DID beat the game with everyone though. Trevor and Cornell several times, but I hadn't played it since I got my Wii U cause I don't want to use the motion controls and am too lazy to plug back in my original Wii).

Well, it'd better for the dialogue if Richter mentioned the "demon could/would have killed you" directly for the reader understand what Richter meant, and maybe Dario could say "That's bullshit" or something like that since he doesn't believe/doesn't know that could happen.

About the Succubus, maybe  she could try to impersonate one of the Marias instead if Anette is removed? That could be a different way to try to trick Richter, or maybe that could be used only for SotN Richter, I'm suggesting Succubus not impersonating the one the character loves the most because DoS Succubuses do that when they turn into Yoko instead of Mina, which could give a bigger variation in dialogues.

Edit: Now that I think of it, can the Succubus even use different forms against different characters on her intro? Not sure about MUGEN's limitations, then there might also have the problem of not having the portraits of specific characters...

there's a limit of 5 portraits per character, so succubus would have one of hers, and remaining 4 for extra forms. it's not nearly enough to have everyone use a different form+portrait.

besides, imagine all the extra sprites and portraits needed to be made for this to work.

So if Succubus were to transform into someone else to try to fool the character, then the best way to do it would be her disguising herself as the same helpless woman against every hero, but I guess the best way to do it would be her already showing up on her succubus form and pointlessly trying to seduce the character.

or she could simply not have a portrait or name there, and just appear as a faceless ??? there.

though i suppose i could go past the bounds and nothing will happen unless she has more than one alt mode in, which she won't. alt modes have portrait/name id +5 per mode, so 0-4 is alt mode 1, 5-9 is alt 2, 10-14 is alt 3 and so on.

setting it to 5 and onwards should be fine as long as there's no more modes to confuse it, since then it'd display the 6th portrait and name from first mode as the first one for second mode.

I remember at one point we discussed having an additional portrait for a character's shopkeeper. For instance, the possibility of having the Master Librarian appear for Alucard in place of Renon. Would something like that be possible for the succubus? Would she be able to pull from Alucard's portrait pool to turn into Lisa?

nope. character portraits are taken from their sprite files, so only loaded ones work. only the selected ones are loaded.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean - in my hypothetical scenario, Alucard would be the player character. Couldn't the dialogue box load the portrait from him instead of the succubus?

i suppose it can. if one of those pictures was reserved for succubus's form it could be done, though the character could only do 4 more portraits.

although i don't think all 5 would even be used anyway. the most currently would be stella with loretta, or reimu with cirno and marisa. 4 for stella if her boss form had unique ones, like with red eyes, since player and boss share the same portrait slots.

If I understand correctly, with a 5 limit portrait per character, that means it's the character's own portrait + 4 more, so it'd be Alucard, Aeon, St. Germain, Renon/Master Librarian and one more left, I think the "solution" to make Succubus impersonate other characters would be by making her non-Succubus form use one of the character's own portrait, but then it would come back to having too much extra work for making the sprites for all of those other characters + the portraits.

aeon, germain and renon are in the enemy files, so in intro stage's, in aguni's, in dracula's and evil soma's.
